Facelifts by Dr. Lofman

As we age, facial changes are inevitable. This is due to gravity, environment exposure and genetics. A facelift is a surgical treatment that helps to improve signs of aging on the face that can make you look worn, tired or even older than you are!

A facelift can address a variety of concerns, including:

  • Sagging and relaxation of the skin
  • Deep folds in the corners of the mouth and lines between the  nose
  • Loss of facial volume
  • Jowls in the jaw and cheeks
  • Loose skin or extra fat on the neck (often referred to as “turkey neck”)
  • Lack of facial contours

Who is a good candidate for a facelift?

A facelift can restore a youthful and more refreshed appearance in a natural-looking way. And, believe it or not, facelifts can be a solution for men and women as young as their 40s though many patients are in their 50s, 60s or 70s. Reason being, facelifts can be considered a preventative measure against aging.

Dr. Lofman has been performing facelifts for over 10 years and his patients are repeatedly pleased with the natural-looking results. In fact, his approach is to subtly refresh rather than create an appearance that looks “done” or lacks expression (which can actually make you look older!).

Good candidates for a facelift include men and women who are over 40 and in good health, are nonsmokers and who have no medical conditions that would hinder healing. Also, realistic expectations are key.

The facelift procedure

A facelift is an outpatient procedure that can be done in a matter of hours under either local or general anesthesia. During the treatment, facial tissue and underlying muscle is repositioned and tightened while excess or loose skin is removed. The beauty of the facelift is that incisions are very small and very difficult to notice. Most times, they done in the hairline and behind the ears where they are easily hidden.

Your facelift can be customized to your needs and age. Some patients only require a mini facelift, which is less invasive. Others may require a mid or full facelift, which address more intense signs of aging and sagging of the skin. Regardless, your facelift aims to leave you with a more youthful, uplifted appearance and results that last up to a decade or more (though individual results may vary).

Recovery from a facelift can last up to six weeks. Patients should plan on being off of work for up to two weeks while they recover. Your face will appear bruised and swollen, and numbness may also occur. Dr. Lofman will detail recovery protocol and follow up appointments with you before and at your appointment.
