DO BOTOX AND DERMAL FILLER TRULY HAVE ZERO DOWNTIME?

When it comes to anti-aging treatments, Botox and dermal fillers are gaining more and more popularity each year. There are many reasons for this: The treatments are fast (typically about a half hour), they involve minimal discomfort and the results can be seen quickly — about a week with Botox and immediately to up to two days with dermal filler. A far cry from facelifts of years past, which used to be the only solution for turning back the hands of time on your face.

And though there are few restrictions after these treatments, it is not entirely true to say that there is no downtime involved. Read more below on what Dr. Andrew Lofman recommends for aftercare.

AFTERCARE FOR INJECTABLES

Following your Botox and dermal filler treatments, there is minimal downtime and some people even go right back to work afterward. However, there is always a risk of bruising or swelling when you are being injected. To reduce your chances of bruising and swelling, come into your appointment well hydrated and avoid any blood-thinning medications and supplements a week prior to your appointment (with doctor approval).

After your appointment, you’ll want to apply ice to areas that appear to be swollen. Also, it’s important to keep your head elevated following your injections (no downward dogs!). Avoid laying down for four hours following your injections and avoid strenuous exercise for 24-48 hours. Avoid applying pressure to the injected area and avoid alcohol for 24 hours following your treatment. And with dermal filler, it’s best to try to sleep on your back with your head elevated for the first night after your appointment.

If you follow these instructions, you can better achieve ideal results with the least amount of swelling or bruising.
