FAQ-MEDICAL SPA

HOW LONG DO BOTOX AND DYSPORT LAST?

Botox and Dysport, also referred to medically as neuromodulators, are used for the temporary paralyzing of facial muscle that are responsible for facial wrinkles. Using a fine needle injected into the muscle, frown lines, crow’s feet, forehead lines and more can be smoothed out for a younger, more refreshed appearance.

For most people, Botox and Dysport last about three to four months. Bear in mind that everyone is different, and, for some, results of injections could last two months or even up to five or six months. Some people metabolize the product faster than others and may need more frequent treatments.

Most importantly, a skilled injector like at Dr. Lofman’s medical spa can offer an effective treatment based on your unique needs.

WHERE CAN BOTOX AND DYSPORT BE INJECTED?

Botox and Dysport are most commonly injected in the forehead, the vertical lines between the eyebrows (often referred to as the “number elevens”) and the area around the eyes also known as crow’s feet. The muscles in these areas are constantly being used, thus, wrinkles develop. Botox and Dysport smooth these lines and help prevent further deepening of lines.

Botox and Dysport can also be injected above the lips and neck to smooth out “smoker’s” lines, and in the chin to correct chin wrinkles and dimpling. Further, it can be used to uplift the upper lip, also known as a lip flip.

Some patients even find Botox and Dysport useful for excessive underarm or palm sweating when injected in these areas.

WHAT ARE DERMAL FILLER INJECTIONS?

Different than Botox and Dysport, dermal fillers like Restylane and Juvederm are used to replace lost volume and create more volume where desired. The most common areas for dermal filler injections are the cheek area, around the mouth, under the eyes and in the lips.

Since collagen begins to diminish as early as our 20s, the cheeks can begin to display a sagging appearance. Dermal filler replaces the volume for a more youthful look. Likewise, some people are dissatisfied with the look of dark undereye circles or hollows. When injected in this area, dermal filler helps to fill in this area, reducing the look of darkness.

Dermal filler in the lips is very popular and can enhance the appearance of your lips by evening the balance of the upper and lower lips and creating fuller lips for those with thin lips.

IS THERE DOWN TIME WITH COSMETIC INJECTABLES?

Most patients go right back to their normal daily routines following a Botox/Dysport or dermal filler procedure. You may experience redness or swelling at the injection site and there is always a risk of bruising. You should come to your appointment well-hydrated and avoid blood-thinning supplements and medications for one week prior (if doctor-approved).

After your appointment, you should avoid laying down for up to four hours and avoid heavy exercise for 48 hours.

HOW CAN I REVERSE SUN DAMAGE?

Over time our skin can begin to display brown spots, freckles and redness caused by years spent in the sun. Fortunately, the Cynosure ICON Laser works to treat skin tone and discoloration through laser microbeam energy delivered to the areas, causing it to slowly disappear. WHAT IS THE BEST TREATMENT FOR ACNE SCARRING OR OTHER SCARS?

When it comes to treating acne, a customized approach is best. Oftentimes, this includes a variety of procedures and medical-grade skincare products.

We specialize in the Cynosure ICON Laser, which can resurface your skin through laser energy, instigating your body’s natural healing process. This is effective for both acne scars and other scarring and only targets the affected tissue.
