Dr. Andrew Lofman is starting a new series in which he walks us through the entire process of deciding whether plastic surgery is right for you, and what to expect during the following recovery period. The second procedure he wanted to focus on was Breast Augmentation and Asymmetry.

This patient was 22 year old female with a B cup bra size. She came into my office for a consultation to discuss breast augmentation. With this patient, it is important to note that her breasts were slightly asymmetrical when compared to each other. Also, her left nipple/areolar complex is lower than her right. She wanted to be a full C to small D cup. After discussing all of her options, we decided on 475cc High Profile Smooth Round Silicone Memory Gel implants.

Day 1 of seeing the patient.

Breast augmentation front view post op

1 Week Post op. Her implants still appear a bit high. You can also clearly see the swollen pectorals muscles which make the top look a little elongated towards the arm pits. This is common when placing the implants under the muscle. Otherwise, she has great symmetry of the implants. The white steri strips can be seen covering the incision in the inframammary folds.

At two weeks post op the implants remain in an elevated position. The pectorals muscles are still swollen, but this is beginning to resolve.

After breast augmentation and implant settling Dr. Andrew Lofman

At 4 months post op, the implants have settled into a great position. The muscle swelling has completely resolved. She has great symmetry with a final D cup bra size.

As you can see from the case study above, breast augmentation can correct breast asymmetry. The same can be said about a breast lift or breast reduction. Your plastic surgeon can create a treatment plan that will make your breasts look more symmetrical and balanced while achieving your size and placement goals. Breast asymmetry is quite common, and it is something that many women feel insecure about. Thankfully, there are cosmetic surgery solutions available to ease your concerns and give you the confidence you deserve.
