Laser Resurfacing

Laser Resurfacing is like exfoliating, but with incredible strength; it removes dead and dry skin from the surface of your face to reveal a smoother, more even, younger-looking you. The difference is that laser resurfacing is done with a Cynosure ICON Laser to address a variety of skin issues. Using state-of-the-art technology, this laser can reduce wrinkles, even out skin texture, and stimulate collagen production and the regeneration of new skin.

Our ICON laser uses fractional laser technology to deliver single wavelengths of energy to the skin’s second layer without harming the skin’s surface. These intensely targeted pulses destroy pockets of pigmentation and hair follicles, and stimulate collagen production, resulting in smoother, more even skin over time. This treatment also triggers the body’s natural healing process, so your skin continues to improve even after the session.

Laser Resurfacing in Michigan can treat:

  • Leg Veins
  • Dark Spots
  • Stretch Marks
  • Unwanted Hair
  • Scarring

Laser Resurfacing is fully customizable to your unique skin concerns and is the perfect skin rejuvenation treatment to even out skin tone and texture on the face and body.

Acne Scar Reduction

Even after acne has healed, lingering scars can cause discoloration and uneven skin texture on the face and body. Another incredible use for our ICON laser is acne scar reduction

The high-power light Waves break down scar tissue on a cellular level, simultaneously stimulating collagen production to encourage new, healthy, even skin growth. Over time and continued sessions, this laser treatment engages your body’s natural healing process to make acne scars disappear, leaving you with a smoother tone and texture.

Everyone’s skin is different, and just like all of our available laser treatments in Michigan, acne scar reduction is a customizable treatment option designed to address your specific skin concerns.

Stretch Mark Reduction

There are many different reasons someone might develop stretch marks, including weight gain, pregnancy, muscle growth, and more. Stretch mark reduction can smooth and even out the skin, reducing the appearance of scars or discoloration and resulting in a more toned and tightened look overall.

Whether you have scarring from a surgical procedure like a C-section, stretch marks from pregnancy, or weight fluctuation, our ICON laser can significantly improve the texture and appearance of your skin.

How it works

Just like laser resurfacing treatments, we use our ICON laser and fractional light technology to target the build-up of pigment and stimulate the skin to encourage new collagen production.

Laser stretch mark reduction treatments are quick, lasting just 15-30 minutes each. They require little to no downtime; however, we recommend that you avoid intense sun exposure before, during, and after any laser treatments. This will help protect your skin and enhance your results.

Our patients see significant improvement in skin tone and texture after 3-7 ICON laser treatments, depending on the size of the treatment area.

Laser Hair Removal

Say goodbye to painful shaving, waxing, and plucking! Our ICON laser can also target and destroy the hair follicles on your legs, underarms, bikini area, and more for hair reduction and removal over a series of treatments.

Your hair grows in three stages: anagen (growing), catagen (regressing), and telogen (resting). Because of this, we only target certain follicles during each treatment. As a result, we recommend a series of treatments to achieve an even result.

ICON laser hair removal is safe for all skin textures, tones, and types, and most people see a significant reduction in hair thickness and regrowth after just 3 treatments.

IPL Rejuvenation

If you’re just beginning your med spa journey, or you’re not ready for a laser treatment but desire similar results, you might be a perfect candidate for light therapy rejuvenation.

The IPL Facial Rejuvenation is a treatment series that uses light to reduce fine lines and wrinkles, pigment spots, superficial blood vessels, and unwanted hair. IPL stands for Intense Pulsed Light. The device is less harsh than a laser and can be less damaging for the more sensitive skin on your face.

IPL works similarly to laser treatments by emitting light energy to the outermost layers of your skin. The difference is that lasers emit a single wavelength at a time for more intense, targeted treatment, while IPL emits several wavelengths at once—more similar to a camera flash.

The IPL Facial is a treatment that benefits most skin tones or types, and works well for nearly all skin textures. This treatment is fully customized to your unique skin concerns and requires virtually no downtime at all, making it the perfect easy summer prep.

Most clients see the best results after 3-6 IPL treatments.

Ablative vs. non-ablative lasers

When it comes to laser treatments in Michigan, there are two categories of laser technology: ablative and non-ablative.

Ablative lasers work by removing the top layer of skin. As the laser vaporizes the skin’s outermost layer, it forces the skin to restructure as it heals. This reduces the appearance of scars, fine lines and wrinkles, and pigmentation concerns.

Ablative lasers most often produce the best clinical results, but can be more invasive and require more downtime following your treatment.

Our Cynosure ICON laser is ablative laser treatment.

Non-ablative lasers are less invasive and less intense treatment options. They work by heating up the targeted tissue underneath the skin’s surface, stimulating collagen production from within to fill in the skin’s imperfections.

Non-ablative laser treatments often require little to no downtime. Since they are less invasive, treatment protocol usually includes multiple sessions over a period of time to achieve your desired results.

Our IPL Facial Rejuvenation treatment is an example of a non-ablative laser technique.

Combining laser treatments

Laser treatments are great for combining but not so much for layering. Consider using different laser types for different treatment areas if you’re looking to take your results to the next level by doubling up.

For example, if you want to treat discoloration on your face and arms, your medical aesthetician might recommend the ICON laser for your arms and an IPL treatment for your face.

Your consultation is the number one step in making these determinations. Our experienced staff is committed to working with you to outline your treatment goals and build a course of treatment to help you achieve your desired results.

Important steps in recovering after laser treatments

When choosing a laser treatment, you must plan for the recovery process. Fortunately, many of our laser treatments don’t require a lengthy downtime, but it is still essential that you keep in mind some best practices to get the most out of your results.

Following light or laser treatments in Michigan, it’s critical to limit your sun exposure while your skin heals and recovers. While lasers are the perfect treatment to get your skin fresh and glowing before summer, the sun and heat can cause damage if you don’t protect yourself properly. For up to a week following your laser treatment, treat yourself to a stay-cation indoors, and use a hat or stay in shaded areas when venturing outside.

Additionally, it’s time to get serious about your sunscreen. Immediately following your treatment and for up to a week afterward, your skin will be especially sensitive. Be sure to use SPF as part of your daily moisturizing or makeup routine, and reapply when necessary (P.S. This is a great skincare tip to work into your routine year-round).

Speaking of products, until your skin has fully healed from your laser or light treatment, you must use gentle cleansing and moisturizing products to calm and care for your skin.

Leave your chemical exfoliants in the cabinet, including glycolic acid, salicylic acid, AHAs and BHAs, citric acid, and other popular skincare ingredients. Instead, opt for something with limited ingredients, like Vaseline or Aquaphor, for a few days following your treatment.

You’ll also want to avoid any products with fragrances or added color, including perfumes and lotions, as they may irritate the skin.

While we always recommend using topical hydrating products, it’s equally as important to hydrate your skin from the inside out by drinking plenty of water. Keeping your entire body hydrated after a laser treatment in Michigan can help your skin heal and recover quicker and more comfortably. The extra moisture will also better your long-term rejuvenation results.

In addition to drinking enough water, you can also supplement your diet with nutrient-rich foods like fruits and vegetables and vitamins that are good for your skin and hair.

As a general rule of thumb when balancing activities after a laser treatment in Michigan: avoid anything that could clog your pores or alter the skin. While you’re healing from your laser treatment, take a break from:

  • Tanning beds
  • Self-tanning lotions on the treated area
  • Chlorinated swimming pools
  • Saunas or steam rooms
  • Exercise or activities that lead to sweating
  • Heavy makeup
  • Makeup removing wipes
