THREE WAYS TO CARE FOR NEW BREAST IMPLANTS

The number of breast augmentations has increased three-fold since the 90s. Needless to say, many women around the country are realizing that breast augmentation is both attainable and affordable, and can be truly life changing.

If you’re thinking about breast augmentation in Michigan or have recently undergone the procedure, congratulations! But also, it’s important to note that caring for your new breasts is vital to feeling and looking your best. Read on for three essential tips.

TAKE IT EASY

I always recommend that my patients lay low for the first week to two weeks following a breast augmentation. (Of course, no heavy lifting for two months.) Rest is also particularly important in the days following your breast augmentation. After all, no surgical procedure should be taken lightly and your body needs time to heal.

It is best to prepare for a week off of work. If you have children, you may wish to solicit help from trusted family or friends, as driving is not allowed while on pain medication. Even simple tasks like walking the dog need to be avoided in the first week post-op.

You may find that you have less energy than normal. Listen to your body and get the recovery time you need. Also, be sure to sleep on your back for six weeks to avoid any added pressure on your implants.

SUPPORT YOUR BREASTS

Providing your new breasts with adequate support is essential following your breast augmentation. You should wear your surgical bra or a very supportive sports bra both night and day until Dr. Andrew indicates otherwise, typically about three to four weeks.

Bear in mind that you may wish to hold off on bra shopping until your breasts have completely settled and the swelling has subsided — generally at least two months after your procedure.

MASSAGE THE AREA

Most of the time, unless you’ve also undergone a breast lift, gentle massage will help your breasts to assimilate just as natural breast tissue would. Massing your implants a few times a day in various directions can help them feel more like natural breasts. Our staff will provide additional details and information on the proper way to massage your breasts.
